Quake Pulse Activity Index

Global comparable activity

A high index means recent activity is high relative to the selected historical baseline. It does not mean that a larger earthquake is about to occur.

What the charts actually describe

Daily counts, magnitude bands and regional rankings summarise the local dataset currently stored by Quake Pulse. They are useful for comparison and discovery.

Interpret the numbers

Historical counts of small earthquakes are strongly affected by the evolution of detection networks. A higher count does not automatically mean the planet has become more seismically active.

Important limits

For long-term analysis, consistent magnitude thresholds and clear time windows are more meaningful than raw totals.
